The 6th Catacombs Day – Spring Edition will take place on Saturday 18 March 2023, at the seven Roman catacombs open to the public: San Callisto, San Sebastiano, Domitilla, Priscilla, Sant’Agnese, Santi Marcellino and Pietro and San Pancrazio.

It will have as its theme “Paths of peace”: the symbols and images that represent peace will help us to reflect and, precisely, to move inwardly and communally towards horizons of peace, in a historical moment marked, unfortunately, by tragic images of war and violence.

During the day it will be possible, by booking, to access the underground complexes for free and take advantage of guided tours.

This year’s Catacombs Day will take place in two parts!

In fact, in 2023 the Pontifical Commission of Sacred Archaeology has planned two events dedicated to the promotion of these exceptional places of Christian Underground Rome: one in spring dedicated to catacombs that are open to the public and one in autumn for catacomb complexes that open only on special occasions.

The Day of 18 March aims to inaugurate the spring season, encouraging, after the winter break, the resumption of travel, pilgrimages and external activities.

In addition, on 18 March, events related to the Day will also take place at some catacombs, such as special visits, conferences and workshops for children.

As a tradition, the 6th Catacombs Day will also be concluded by a solemn Eucharistic Celebration, which will be held this year at the Basilica of San Pancrazio (Piazza San Pancrazio, 5D), at 6:30 p.m., presided over by His Eminence Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi. At the Celebration, a concert will follow, in the same basilica.

In addition, all participants in the Sixth Catacombs Day will be issued a coupon valid for two reduced-price tickets for visiting the catacombs of Rome open to the public, to be used by 2023.

For participants in the 6th Day of the Catacombs is reserved a voucher to enjoy 2 entrances with reduced ticket in one of the Roman catacombs open to the public, valid until 31 December 2023.

Visits are always free, but booking is required.
